Honda Only January Deal For Milan

Despite a shocking first half of the season, Keisuke Honda is the first – and the only – new face to arrive at AC Milan in this transfer window.

The Japan international was presented at the San Siro on Wednesday after completing a free transfer from CSKA Moscow and will wear the prestigious No. 10 shirt for the Rossoneri.

Milan was already linked with Honda since July but couldn't agree on a transfer fee with his Russian club CSKA in the last transfer window. With rumours of PSG and Juventus also interested in the free 27-year-old, it’s no surprise that Milan closed the deal quickly.

The Japan international spoke of his "childhood dream" to wear the No. 10 shirt at the Seria A club.

"It’s been exciting and I'm really happy to be here. I always said that I would play in the Serie A and wear the number 10 shirt,” said Honda.

“My career was destined to be here and my heart was set on Milan.

“Serie A is the most famous league in Japan and Zaccheroni, the coach of Japan, advised me to come here.”

Honda states that he knows about what is expected from him and wants to help the Italian giants to play a much better second half of the season.

"I wanted to come here, to be a champion here with the club, but I am thinking about the Champions League.

“I understand there are high expectations and I have got to show what I am capable of, to score many goals and provide assists. I will do my best."

Honda follows a long list of football’s great to wear the No.10 jersey at Milan with Ruud Gullit, Rui Costa and Clarence Seedorf amongst them.

Milan chief executive, Adriano Galliani, also declared the transfer window closed for his club, unless there will be a surprising option available.

"Our transfer dealings end here," he said.

"Then again, there can always be some surprises. At the moment, we are not planning any more arrivals and when I say something, it reflects the reality at that moment. As of today, no new signings are to be expected.”

Milan only have 22 points from 18 games and are 17 points behind the first Champions League qualifying spot, but started the year 2014 with a 3-0 over Atalanta Bergamo.

Milan coach, Massimiliano Allegri, who won the 2011 Scudetto in his first season at San Siro has already informed club officials that he will quit his job after the season and that’s probably one of the reasons why Milan won’t do further actions in the transfer market.
