Gunners Crush Hammers

A stunning 10 minute period at the start of the second-half saw Arsenal to an emphatic 5-1 win at home to West Ham United on Wednesday night.

The Hammers had taken the lead through Jack Collison but Lukas Podolski ensured that the game was level at the break. The floodgates then opened with Olivier Giroud scoring in the 47th and 57th minutes, while Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott netted in between.

The Gunners had the first chance when Walcott was slipped through in the 14th minute but a last ditch challenge prevented the attacker from firing at goal.

West Ham would then grab the lead as Arsenal failed to clear a corner properly and Collison was on hand to smash it home.

The game was level just four minutes later though as Podolski hammered a shot past the goalkeeper from 25 yards out.

Jack Wilshere had a shot cleared off the line in the 35th minute while Joe Cole saw Aaron Ramsey clear his dinked effort in front of goal at the other end.

The Gunners showed purpose after the break and just two minutes in Kieran Gibbs found Giroud at the near post and he sent a half-volley into the roof of the net.

Moments later Giroud and Podolski combined before the latter unselfishly laid the ball off to Cazorla for the finish.

West Ham were spinning and the brilliant Podolski slid a cross to the far post a minute later for Walcott to fire home.

The misery continued for the visitors in the 57th minute as Podolski put in another telling ball from the flank which Giroud guided home.

The game also featured a terribly injury with Daniel Potts left unconscious on the pitch and he had to be taken to hospital, but it was revealed that he had come around in the ambulance.

The Gunners comfortably saw out the remaining few minutes to secure all three points and edged closer to the Champions League places.
