Pep Guardiola grew accustomed to participating in two-horse races when he was manager at Barcelona.
For years, Real Madrid were Barca’s only real competition in Spanish football, making La Liga boring and intriguing in equal parts.
The two teams have soared guns blazing to the top of the Bundesliga table, and are separated by just a single point.
Third-place Bayer Leverkusen suffered a shock defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig at the weekend, and they are not considered real challengers for the title.
And so Guardiola says that Bayern and Dortmund- two of the best clubs on the planet- will slug it out for honours for the remainder of the campaign.
“Dortmund and Bayern are two of the best teams in the world, not only in the Bundesliga,” he told Abendzeitung Muenchen.
“That is a good challenge for us, but we are ready.”
Guardiola was echoed by his skipper at the Allianz Arena- Philipp Lahm, who added: “It appears that we are showing again that both teams play at a constantly high level -- the only question is for how long. It will come down to a duel between us and them.”
