Cristiano Ronaldo got onto the scoresheet but his goal came at the wrong end as Granada claimed a famous 1-0 win over Real Madrid at the Nuevo Los Carmenes on Saturday night.
Granada enjoyed victory over Madrid for the first time in 41 years and the result boosted the home side's hopes of survival while Madrid could find themselves seven points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid by the end of the weekend.
The game got off to a slow start but the hosts were showing no fear against their star-studded opponents and Alvaro Arbeloa had to clear off his line in the 20th minute.
Just a minute later the decisive goal arrived as Ronaldo's header found the back of his own net, although there was not too much that the Portugal star could do about it.
A mistake from Granada allowed Sami Khedira to get through in the 42nd minute but he dragged his shot wide.
The visitors were not much better after the break and Luka Modric was lucky to escape a second yellow card when he controlled the ball in the 66th minute and seemed to use his arm.
Madrid could have snatched a late equaliser in the 83rd minute after Callejon burst through the middle but after his shot was saved, Karim Benzema somehow failed to hit an empty net from close range.
The visitors failed to find a goal in the dying minutes of the game and Granada saw out the victory to claim a massive three points.
