Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has been dispensing advice to the club’s new starlet, Adnan Januzaj.
The consensus is that United have a diamond in the rough on their hands, and that young Belgian-born Januzaj could achieve great things for the club in the future.
The 18-year-old midfielder has sprung to prominence with a handful of eye-catching displays this season, and Giggs has admired his progression.
More than twice Januzaj’s age, Giggs has seen it all before at Old Trafford, and he believes the youngster is at the right club to develop his natural talent into something special.
"What I got told was just to carry on doing what I had been doing in the youth team and the reserves," Giggs said, recalling his own journey through the ranks at United over two decades.
"That is why you are in the first team. Adnan is a great lad. He wants to learn. He wants to get better. He wants to improve. That is great to see. He is a talent. As far as I am concerned he is at the right place.”
Januzaj recently penned a new five-year deal with United, who reportedly fended off the interest of clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea to retain the teen’s services.
He will now be a Red Devil until 2018 at least, and Giggs says it was the right course of action to take.
"Having his future settled will help him. Obviously he can forget about that now and just enjoy his football. You have seen that in the last game [against Southampton] especially,” he said.
"He is enjoying being around the lads. He has enjoyed learning and training with the first team, just like I did at the same age. You learn so much. It is great for the other players to see someone like that. It gives you a lift as well."
