In-form Marco Reus was among the goals as Borussia Dortmund handed Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, their biggest defeat of the 2013/14 season in a match played on Saturday evening at Allianz Arena.
The win helped Dortmund to remain in second position ahead of Schalke who also won on Friday.
Dortmund opened the account through Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 20th minute while Marco Reus and Jonas Hofmann completed the route with the second and third goals respectively in the second half of the game, to hand Bayern their biggest loss of the season.
Mkhitaryan broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom corner right corner after an assist from Reus.
The in-form Reus, who scored a brace mid-week against Real Madrid, increased the score in the 49th minute with a left footed short from an assist by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Bayern also had their own chances to get back into the game, but their top goal scorer this season Mario Mandzukic was not having his best day in front of goals.
Dortmund coach, Jurgen Klopp, left striker Robert Lewandowski, who is set to join Bayern next season, on the bench and he was only introduced late in the second half of the match.
