Former FC Barcelona boss, Gerardo Martino, has praised Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Messi didn’t experience his best season under Martino after only scoring 41 goals this season for the Blaugrana and losing the FIFA Ballon d’Or to Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Martino highlighted that the Argentine has only reached the ‘halfway stage’ of his career.
"He is an extraordinary footballer who can still beat a lot of records, and he is still at an age that is frightening,” Martino said as quoted by Marca.
“You could be forgiven for thinking he was 35 but he has only just reached the halfway stage of his career," said the Argentine coach about the star who will celebrate his 27th birthday on the 24th June.
"Leo is not the type of player that constantly has to think about doing something different; that just comes naturally to him.
“One day he said to himself 'you have to score more from dead ball positions', and he began to knock them in from dead balls.”
Martino also hailed the "extraordinary" generation of players that his home nation will take to Brazil and thinks Argentina "has a great chance of winning the World Cup.”
