Fergie Sets Goal Target

In the build up to Sunday’s game against Everton, Sir Alex Ferguson has set a target of 25 goals this season for each of his Manchester United strikers.

The Red Devils welcome the Toffees to Old Trafford looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points.

Ferguson recognises that one of the keys to maintaining their hold on top position will be to keep his forwards firing.

Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie have now all been mandated to reach the target of a quarter-century.

"If I can get all our three strikers on 25 goals this season then that will get us in the ball-park for honours. The way they are going, the signs are good," Ferguson stated.

"Wayne is on 13, Javier Hernandez has 14 and Robin van Persie is already on 22. We have 13 Premier League games and, hopefully, another half-dozen cup games as well, so there's plenty of time for them to reach their targets."

Rooney will be coming up against his former club today but Ferguson insists that the England international will be able to deal with the occasion and perform up to standard.

"When Wayne first went back to Goodison, the crowd gave him a lot of stick, and maybe it did affect him," said the Scot.

"He's missed a couple of games at Everton through injury, but he scored against them last season. So I don't think it's a problem for him any more, particularly at Old Trafford."
