Maroune Fellaini claims that Arsenal tried to sign him during the recent transfer window.
The big-haired Belgian signed for Manchester United on transfer deadline day, but not before the Gunners tried to lure him away from Everton.
Speaking to beINsport, Fellaini said: “I will not reveal the details, but Arsenal wanted me this summer.”
As it happened, Fellaini opted to follow his former boss at the Toffees, David Moyes, to United.
And he says he has not regretted his decision for even one second.
“Manchester United convinced me,” he explained.
“During the transfer window, there’s always a list of players who are available to change clubs. You never know what’s right. I only knew that Moyes was interested.
“David Moyes has given me confidence. When I first joined Everton, I had difficulties, but he helped me and supported me. Moyes did everything he could to help me become a better player.”
As the transfer window inched closed with Fellaini the only new player through the door at United, some pundits scoffed that he did not have the quality to improve the English champions.
But Fellaini is undaunted by the brickbats, and is determined to prove that he has what it takes to be a Red Devil for both club and country.
“I was criticised -- nobody knew who I was. I succeeded because I worked long and hard. That’s why I’m now playing for Manchester United,” he said.
“I’m not trying to be [Paul] Scholes or [Michael] Carrick. I want to play my own game. It’s difficult at the moment, but I will succeed.”
Meanwhile, with Arsenal flying high thanks in large part to their own deadline day signing, Mesut Ozil, Gunners fans may well feel they dodged a mop-shaped bullet.
