Reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona coach, Gerardo Martino, will leave the Blaugrana at the end of the season to take over the job as Argentine national coach.
Sources from TV sports show Esport 3, who are reportedly ‘very close’ to Barcelona, have revealed that Tata Martino has decided to leave Camp Nou, but Barcelona have immediately denied these rumours.
In a press conference, Barcelona’s new vice president, Manuel Arroyo, has categorically denied information supplied by Esport 3.
"We found out a few minutes ago that this news was emanating from somewhere,” he said.
"We don't support it, Tata (Martino) is contracted to the club and in this week that is so important to us he is dedicated to Barca.”
Barcelona are preparing for an important Clasico at the Bernabeu on Sunday, where they can’t afford to lose otherwise their La Liga title hopes might be over.
Losses to Valencia, Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid in their last seven games have left the Blaugrana four points off Real Madrid, and it is reported that the pressure of the Camp Nou job is getting the Martino.
But Manuel Arroyo was quick to downplay any exit rumours of the Argentine.
"We asked him and he has flat out denied it. He has not spoken to anyone, including his staff, it's completely false,” he continued.
When asked about claims Martino's contract includes a clause that would make him free for the Argentina post, Arroyo added: "I can't give you the exact information, but they're practically habitual. It is a clause that exists not only for him but also for us, but I insist, there is no intention to invoke it.
"He hasn't said that he's going to continue, but we are all working towards the future together, more so in this very important week for the club ahead of our trip to the Bernabeu."
Martino has allegedly also missed a recent planning meeting with Barcelona’s director of football, Andoni Zubizarreta.
