Falcao's Farewell Ahead Of Monaco Move

Radamel Falcao seemed to wave goodbye to Atletico Madrid’s fans on Sunday, after their last match at the Vicente Calderon this season.

The prolific Colombian striker is reportedly to sign a transfer deal with French club Monaco on Monday.

Falcao has been a transfer target for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea after spearheading Atleti’s attack for two glorious seasons.

But Monaco appear to have blown Falcao’s other suitors out of the water, with an estimated €60 million bid for his highly coveted finishing abilities.

It is a major statement of intent for the disgraced former giants of French football, who recently won promotion to top-flight football as second division champions.

Monaco have also just confirmed the signings of Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez for a combined fee of €70 million.

You can see Monaco’s logic: Porto are a talent farm, and Rodriguez, Moutinho and Falcao have played together well.

On paper, the trio has all the aspects required to flourish- Moutinho’s midfield artistry, Rodriguez’s blistering pace and cut-and-thrust out wide, and Falcao’s peerless forward play.

Atletico Madrid will certainly miss Falcao’s goals, which allowed them to fly high in La Liga and secure the Copa del Rey.

They will have their work cut out to replace him, but manager Diego Simeone says Falcao is leaving with the club’s thanks and blessing.

"What more can I say, just thanks for what he has given us if he has to leave," Simeone said.

"Everything that happens to Falcao makes me happy."

Monaco have confirmed their intention to sign Falcao, who is expected in France for a medical today.

"Yes, we are expecting Falcao and four or five other players of his quality,” Monaco’s assistant coach, Jean Petit, is reported to have told Radio RCN.

“We have spoken and we continue to speak with Falcao and his representatives. Negotiations are ongoing. We hope to seal a deal as soon as possible.

"Monaco need a player like Falcao because he can help us a lot and because he can attract other top players, and that's the best way of confirming our project is big and interesting.

"Signing Falcao is a big coup on sporting and media levels for French football."
