Manchester United defender Patrice Evra still rues the day Paul Pogba left the club.
The Red Devils failed to convince the young midfielder that his career would best be served by staying at Old Trafford.
Instead he moved to Juventus, where he was immediately rewarded with more game time, and ultimately a Serie A winner’s medal.
Evra has seen his countryman’s talent blossom, and is sad that United were never able to benefit from Pogba’s highly-rated and increasingly coveted abilities.
Pogba may have been unable to convince ex-United manager Alex Ferguson that he was worthy to start games for the English champions. But Evra says the big-name players at the club always knew they had a star in the making on their hands.
“His [Pogba's] talent on the pitch, his aggression, his presence, is very rare,” Evra told TF1.
“He very quickly earned the respect of players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
“It’s true that you have to win over the manager too, but to have won the dressing room like he did [was impressive].
“It was truly a huge loss when he left the club.”
Meanwhile, Pogba’s Juve team-mate Claudio Marchisio has responded to the recent reports that The Old Lady may struggle to keep the burgeoning star.
He says that he hopes Pogba stays in the Juve engine room for many seasons to come.
“He’s a precious young talent,” the Italy international said, according to Soccernet.
“He showed his potential last year and I hope to have him as a teammate for as long as possible.”
