Jack Rodwell cancelled out Juan Mata's early strike, as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
United are still in search of their first win of the campaign, while the Black Cats picked up their second draw of the season.
Louis Van Gaal welcomed back Robin Van Persie and Antonio Valencia into the line-up, while young defender Tyler Blackett retained his spot in defence.
After a shaky opening 15 minutes, United took the lead against the run of the play, as Antonio Valencia's drilled cross into the box was turned home by Juan Mata.
Connor Wickham came close to leveling matters for Sunderland in the 27th minute, but his effort from 25-yards out sailed just wide of the upright.
Three minutes later and the home side were level, as Jack Rodwell rose highest to head home Sebastian Larsson's corner.
Wickham nearly gave Sunderland the lead minutes after the halftime break but the striker's half volley was cleared off the line by Tyler Blackett.
The rest of the second half failed to provide openings from both side's, despite Louis Van Gaal's men seeing most of the ball in the latter stages of the half.
While, Sunderland were quite happy to sit back and catch United on the counter.
In the other two fixtures on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur put on a fine performance as they thrashed Queens Park Rangers 4-0 at White Hart Lane.
While, Ryan Shwacross scored a late equaliser to help Stoke City secure a 1-1 draw with 10-man Hull City at the KC Stadium.
