City Too Strong For Liverpool
A brace from Stevan Jovetic and a solitary strike from Sergio Aguero secured a 3-1 win for Manchester City over Liverpool at the Etihad on Monday night.
Pablo Zabaleta squandered a chance to give City the lead in the 15th minute, as he blasted over from 12-yards out, after getting on the end of Clichy's cross.
Daniel Sturridge registered Liverpool's first effort on target in the 32nd, as the striker showed some good skill to beat Vincent Kompany, before firing an effort straight at Joe Hart.
However, it was the home side who took the lead five minutes before the halftime break, Stevan Jovetic pounced on a lapse in concentration from Alberto Moreno, before firing under Simon Mignolet.
Jovetic got his and City's second in the 55th minute with a composed finish from 12-yards out, after being picked out by Samir Nasri.
City's advantage was increased in the 69th minute, as Aguero comfortably slotted past Mignolet, three minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Liverpool pulled one back in the 83rd minute, through a Gael Clichy own goal, after Rickie Lambert's header had rebounded off Joe Hart.
Brendan Rodgers' men pushed for another goal in the closing stages of the half, but City held their own to see out the rest of the match.
