It was an exciting Tuesday night in the English Premier League with 13 goals scored across six games as Manchester United, Swansea, Crystal Palace and Liverpool all won.
The Champions got back to winning ways thanks to goals in each half from Robin Van Persie and Ashley Young in their 2-0 victory over Cardiff City at Old Trafford.
Juan Mata made his debut for the Red Devils in a win that saw United up to 40 points on the league table in seventh place, only two points behind sixth placed Everton.
Steven Pienaar’s Everton were also in action, but it will be a night they will quickly want to forget following their 4-0 thumping at the hands of cross-town rivals Liverpool.
Daniel Sturridge was the star for Liverpool with a brace in their 4-0 win that saw them up to fourth on the league table with 46 points, three ahead of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur and three behind third placed Chelsea.
Pienaar made his first start in two weeks for the Toffees after returning from injury, but only played 45 minutes before being substituted at half time.
Kagisho Dikgacoi’s Crystal Palace were also in action, and although the South African was not on the team sheet on the night, he will be happy his side got a 1-0 win over Hull City thanks to a solitary goal from Jason Puncheon.
The win saw Palace up to 14th place on the table with 23 points. A win in their next game combined with results going their way in other matches could see them move as high as tenth on the table.
Currently occupying tenth spot, however, on 24 points is Swansea after their 2-0 win over Fulham thanks to goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Chico Flores.
The other two matches on the night both ended in stalemates as Arsenal dropped two points in a 2-2 draw against Southampton while Norwich and Newcastle finished goalless.
Arsenal had to come from a goal behind to earn a share of the spoils which sees them at the top of the Premiership on 52 points, two better than second placed Manchester City but having played a game more.
