A single goal from Mame Diouf handed Manchester City their first defeat of the season after losing 1-0 to Stoke City in an English Premier League match at the Ethihad Stadium on Saturday.
The result leaves Manchester City on six points from their first three games while Stoke picked up their first win.
City started the better of the two teams with Ivorian Yaya Toure the main threat in attack for the home side.
In the eight minute Toure met a right wing cross with astrong header, but he saw his attempt well-saved by Asmir Begovic.
Three minutes later Begovic was on hand again, this time denying Samir Nasri with a smart save low and to his left.
In the 25th minute Toure came close again when he flashed a 20-yard shot inches wide of the post.
City continued to pile on the pressure, but could not find a goal before the break while Stoke offered very little in attack on the opening half.
The start of the second half continued in the same pattern, with city on the attack.
However, in the 58th minute, very much against the run of play, Stoke to the lead after a swift counter-attack saw Diouf find the back of the net with a sublime finish, 1-0.
City tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so as Stoke took home all three points.
