The AC Milan forward recently made the decision to come out of retirement on the international stage, after last representing Sweden at the 2016 European Championship in France.
In his first public appearance in Sweden gear since returning for his country, Ibrahimovic was asked an array of questions, but one appeared to catch the 39-year-old off guard.
The former Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United forward was asked how his family, in particular his sons, reacted to the news he would be going to back to international football.
"That's not a good question you're asking," he answered while tearing up, according to GiveMeSport.
"I had Vincent (one of his sons) here who really cried when I left him. But now it's okay."
Ibrahimovic spoke more about his return, saying he is not just returning for the sake of it but because he wants to achieve results.
"To play in the national team is the biggest thing you can do as a football player, and as I was following them (Sweden), inside me I was feeling I think I can help them, I think I can do something," he added.
"Obviously, it's not up to me, what a player wants and what a coach wants, it has to go together.
"I've got the opportunity now to play for my country and I do it with honour, but it's not only about that – it sounds like I'm only happy to be here, but I'm here to get results, to bring results for the coach and my teammates and the whole country.
"As much as I talk here, if I don't bring results, here it means nothing."
