The Ivory Coast qualified for the World Cup Finals as Salomon Kalou scored a last minute goal as the Elephants and Senegal drew 1-1 at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Saturday night.
The draw was enough to see the Ivory Coast go through 4-2 over both legs of their World Cup qualifying playoff, in a match that saw the young Lions of Teranga side do most of the attacking.
The Ivory Coast won the first-leg encounter 3-1 a month ago, with goals scored by Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, and a Ludovic Sane own goal. Papiss Cisse got Senegal's goal.
This match was moved to Morocco as a punishment for the rioting that occurred in the African Cup of Nations qualifier between the two nations last year.
Cisse had the first chance for Senegal to get back in the tie in the fifth minute, but his header went very wide.
A minute later Gervinho danced through the Senegal defence, but his final effort was blocked and cleared away.
Senegal had two chances in the 13th minute as first Dame N'Doye headed toward goal but Didier Drogba made an acrobatic clearance, and then Idrissa Gueye's shot from outside the area flew just high and wide.
N'Doye had another chance in the 19th minute from a set piece, but his shot was punched away by Boubacar Barry.
In the 27th minute Salif Sane tried a shot from outside the area, but it took a deflection off Souleymane Bamba and went out for a corner.
Salomon Kalou had a chance in the 31st minute from the edge of the area after a good run and square-ball by Gervinho, but Kalou's shot ballooned over.
N'Doye had another chance for Senegal in the 40th minute, but his shot from left of the goal went over the bar, and at half-time it remained goalless.
In the 49th minute Cisse almost took advantage of sloppy defending from the Ivory Coast but Barry did well to block to his shot with his legs.
Senegal continue to press, trying to get back into this tie, and three minutes later Cisse saw another effort blocked by the Ivory Coast defence.
Sadio Mane tried a shot from the edge of the box in the 62nd minute, but it went wide to the left.
Cisse was brought down on the edge of the area in the 64th minute, but N'Doye's free-kick effort didn't curl enough and went out wide to the right.
In the 76th minute Senegal were awarded a penalty when Drogba was adjudged to have fouled Mane in the box.
Moussa Sow who had come on as a substitute made no mistake and slotted the ball past Barry to make it 1-0.
In the 83rd minute Bouna Coundoul made a good save as he charged off his line to save at Yaya Toure's feet.
Senegal came close to getting the goal they needed in the 91st minute but a goal mouth scramble led to the ball being deflected out.
But it was the Ivory Coast who would have the last say as a minute later Kalou was played in by Toure and he slid the ball under Coundoul to make it 1-1 on the night.
