Drogba's Return To Real

Information in this post will help you participate in the Heineken Star Challenge, which could give you the opportunity to experience the Heineken Star Mansion.

It will come as one of the biggest shocks in the history of the Union of European Football Associations’ history if Galatasaray can beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

The Turkish side may be on track to claim their domestic title, and Real are set to hand their own league crown back to Madrid, but the Spanish giants are still heavily favoured to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League, in search of their tenth European Cup.

If Gala are to have any chance at all against Los Blancos in their stronghold, they will need their powerful Ivorian striker, Didier Drogba, to come to the party.

Drogba will be returning to the stadium where he made his Champions League debut in 2003, when he still played for French side Marseille.

He scored against Real in a heavy 4-2 group stage defeat for L’OM, and 10 successful years later, he still remembers the occasion fondly.

"It will be very special for me, I will never forget that day," Drogba said in Gala’s official magazine, as he looked forward to his return to the Bernabeu.

"It was very important for my career."

While his European football career will come full circle when he steps onto Real’s pitch, Drogba’s meeting with Jose Mourinho will also be an echo of his past.

The Special One helped make Drogba into one of the world’s best strikers when their paths crossed at Chelsea.

Drogba knows just how vital a canny manager can be to a side’s chances, thanks to his experiences with Mourinho.

And he thinks Gala have a chance of upsetting Madrid, due to the Mourinho-like talents of their own manager, Fatih Terim.

"Fatih Terim is a lot like Mourinho in that he is very close to the players and always talking with them," Drogba said.

"The psychological factor is very important in soccer and Terim is very meticulous in that respect."

If Terim, the Turkish Mourinho, can inspire players like Drogba, Wesley Sneijder and free-scoring Burak Yilmaz into firing against Real, perhaps Drogba’s return to the Bernabeu will end more happily than the visit which started his stellar European journey.

Drogba,the King!!
