Dortmund Drop First Points

Borussia Dortmund dropped their first points of the season in the Bundesliga after drawing 1-1 against FC Nurnberg at the Stadion Nürnberg on Satruday.

Dortmund started the brighter of the two sides and saw a lot of the ball early on, but for all their possession they really struggled to break down a stubborn Nurnberg defence.

Dortmund’s only real effort on goal in the opening stages of the match came in the eighth minute from a corner-kick, but Sven Bender headed wide from about ten-yards out.

In fact, one of the best chances of the half went the way of Nurnberg in the 20th minute as Mike Frantz hit the crossbar with a header after latching onto a Makoto Hasebe cross.

Nonetheless, despite the scare, Dortmund continued to press forward and were rewarded for their persistence in the 38th minute as Marcel Schmelzer gave them the lead with a well-placed left-footed shot into the top right corner, 1-0.

The start of the second 45 saw Nurnberg come out fighting and it only took them six minutes after the restart to level matters as Per Nilsson provided a clinical finish with his right foot form the centre of the area after being played on goal by Emanuel Pogatetz, 1-1.

Thereafter it was all Dortmund as they tried to find the winning goal

In the 55th minute Dortmund had their first chance of the half, but Jakub Blaszczykowski fired narrowly wide from just outside the box.

Twelve minutes later and Sokratis Papastathopoulos came close as well at a corner-kick, but he headed his attempt over the target.

In the 77th minute Robert Lewandowski saw one of his many shots on goal well-saved by the Nurnberg keeper.

Dortmund continued to press forward, but couldn’t find the winner as the spoils were shared.
