Borussia Dortmund are resigned to losing their main striker, Robert Lewandoswki, after the Polish international rejected a new contract with the club.
Speculation continues to grow that Lewandowski has already decided to join Bayern Munich, as they seek to strengthen their squad in anticipation of Pep Guardiola’s arrival at the Allianz Arena.
Dortmund’s director of sport, Michael Zorc, says all that remains is for the club to decide if it will sell Lewa at the end of this season, or if they will hold him to the final year of his current deal, which expires at the end of the next campaign.
“Either he goes in June or he stays another year,” Zorc said.
“We will have to see if he is going to be on the move in the summer.”
Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp meanwhile, says he is in the dark regarding the club’s plans for Lewandowski.
And following his team’s exit from German Cup at the hands of Bayern, Klopp mischievously attempted to sidestep the long-running transfer speculation about the Polish hit-man.
“What I would like to know is where Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez will be playing next season,” he quipped on ARD television, regarding two high-profile Bayern stars, who are never far from the rumour mill themselves.
“I don’t think they are going to stick around there for another season, so that is going to be intriguing.”
