Do Or Die For Demoralised Dortmund

Borussia Dortmundare at a crisis point in their season, following their demoralising defeat to rivals Bayern Munich at the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side crashed 3-0 to Pep Guardiola’s seemingly unstoppable team of treble champions.

They are injury ravaged and suffering from a lack of confidence, as their assault on the Bundesliga title seems to have withered away after just 13 matches.

And things don’t get any easier for Dortmund this week, when they face visiting Napoli in the Champions League.

Simply put, Dortmund have to beat the Italians on Tuesday night, or last season’s finalists are unlikely to reach the knockout stage this time around.

They go into the game in third place in Group F, three points behind leadersArsenal and Napoli.

If they lose, they are out. But if they get a positive result, they will keep their chances alive until their last match against group whipping boys Marseille.

It is for that reason that Klopp forced himself to be optimistic following the crushing blow of their defeat to Bayern.

With their season on the precipice of ignominy, Klopp has exhorted his players to get their heads up, rather than wallow in despair.

"I told my team after the Bayern game that they have five minutes to be depressed and then just get up and keep going," said Klopp, according to Reuters.

"We have to think of the next game, draw the right conclusions and be more clear in our game. We want to have a final in Marseille.”

Fortunately for Klopp, his players seem to have taken his message on board.

They have diagnosed their woes, and are determined to set them- and the rest of their season- right against Napoli.

"We are lacking in determination, a sense of purpose," ‘keeper Roman Weidenfeller admitted.

"We take too long to finish off a move. We pass it across instead of going straight for goal."

"Nothing has been decided yet, neither in the league nor in Europe. But Tuesday's game is more crucial than against Bayern. We have to win at home and we need to use our chances because games are won by scoring goals."
