Diego Costa’s move to Chelsea is edging closer as the Atletico Madrid forward is set for a medical at Stamford Bridge.
English media report, Costa’s move is ‘agreed in principle, but has been held up by his hamstring injury’.
However, the Brazil-born Spaniard has now returned to practice with Spain ahead of the World Cup in his home country.
Chelsea are keen to wrap up the deal before the World Cup with only the medical reportedly standing between Costa and the Blues.
Reports claim Chelsea could even complete the deal by the end of the week as Jose Mourinho’s first summer signing.
Landing Costa early, will allow Chelsea to focus on strengthening their central midfielder position, with Cesc Fabregas, Koke and Paul Pogba all linked to the club.
Costa’s arrival will also allow the Blues to start finding new clubs for at least one of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba. Romelu Lukaku’s future remains in doubt, while Samuel Eto’o’s contract is due to expire.
