Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio believes that he has signed one of the best strikers in Europe in Jozy Altidore.
The forward joined the Black Cats from AZ on a four-year deal after scoring 50 goals in 93 games for the Dutch side - including a strike in the KNVB Cup final where they beat PSV in May.
Altidore joins Danny Graham and Steven Fletcher in attack and Di Canio is delighted to have captured the 23-year-old ahead of next season/
"I’m really pleased because a new arrival can benefit the squad and also individuals because there is competition up front," the Italian told the club's official website.
"Altidore is one of the top strikers in Europe. He only joined us on Tuesday but I’m very happy, curious and excited because I have a very good attacking side at the moment."
Altidore spent a loan spell with Hull City in the English Premier League back in 2010 but his stay was unsuccessful as the Tigers were relegated.
