De Gea Asking Rooney To Follow Suit

Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea says that despite rumours linking with a move back to his native country, he is committed to Manchester United and is hoping teammate Wayne Rooney does the same.

After a successful season for the Red Devils there was a lot of speculation that De Gea would go back to Spain to play for one of the top La Liga clubs, but the 22-year-old shot-stopper says he is happy at United and not looking to go anywhere.

“I have a contract. I feel more and more happy at United,” said De Gea.

“I faced normal difficulties - a new country, language, a different league - but through hard work I managed to adapt.

“I am very happy in Manchester.”

De Gea is just hoping now that Rooney follows suit and stays with the 2012/13 Barclays Premiership champions.

“I can't imagine that Rooney will not be at United,” added De Gea.

“He is one of our captains and points of reference on the pitch. He still has to win many titles with us at United.”

While the future of Rooney is uncertain, De Gea says that the team will be welcoming new boss, David Moyes, with open arms.

“I felt great sadness when I heard about Ferguson's goodbye,” said De Gea.

“It will be strange not to see him on the bench or on the training ground. He is everything at Manchester United. He is Manchester United.

“He [Moyes] had done a great job at Everton and now all of us have to support him.

“To substitute Ferguson is a huge target but if they chose him to do it, it is because he is prepared.”
