Kevin de Bruyne moved from Chelsea to ambitious Bundesliga club VLF Wolfsburg over the weekend for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £16m.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Wolves and revealed that he didn’t have have any problems with Jose Mourinho and doesn’t regret joining the Blues despite massive interest from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
"I got along with Mourinho quite well," De Bruyne told Het Laatste Nieuws.
"Tactically he's a very strong coach. In the summer he convinced me to stay, although there was a nice bid from Dortmund on the table.
"My pre-season was good, my first game too, but I still don't know why I lost my place after the game against Manchester United.
"I don't regret my transfer to Chelsea. I played a good season in Bremen, I grew as a player, it was also a learning process."
The Belgian international opted for a move to the Bundesliga club in order to get regular game time and even shunned Spanish giants Atletico Madrid for a move to Wolfsburg.
"I also talked to Atletico Madrid. It was a good option, but I wasn't sure I would be playing there," he said.
"I didn't leave Chelsea because I have to go to the World Cup - it could be over after three games - but just because I lost my joy."
De Bruyne added: "For me it was clear from the start that Wolfsburg would be the first people to talk to when Chelsea said I could go.
"I am very pleased that my transfer has come about.
"I want to play my part, make sure we continue to be successful, and return to the international stage.”
De Bruyne played 33 games and scored 10 goals for Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, whom he had joined on a loan move last season. He returned to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the season, but could not claim regular game time in a midfield which even leaves Juan Mata sidelined for most of the time.
Wolfsburg are currently in fifth position in the Bundesliga, just two points behind the Champions League qualification spot.
