Ronaldinho grabbed the headlines again this weekend, after scoring from the spot in Athletic Mineiro’s 2-1 domestic league defeat to Cruzeiro.
The match was the dead rubber in Athletic’s aggregate win in the final of the Campeonato Mineiro.
Dagoberto had given Cruzeiro a 2-0 half-time lead with a brace, and ‘Dinho grabbed one back for the Champions from the spot with 12 minutes to go.
If the match had been unspectacular, the two-time World Player of the Year’s goal celebration was the highlight of the show.
Often condemned for his love of the night life and the samba lifestyle, ‘Dinho has truly buckled down for Athletic, and has inspired their scintillating season of success.
But he cut loose on Sunday, celebrating his goal with a flamboyance that encapsulates his career, and signing off with hand grenade gesture- a metaphor for the way his season has exploded unexpectedly at the Mineiro.
