Ronaldo Returns To Real Squad

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training and has been included in Real Madrid’s squad for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final return leg at Borussia Dortmund.

Following his recent knee problems, the FIFA Ballon d’Or winner was rested for Madrid’s comfortable 4-0 La Liga win at Real Sociedad on Saturday.

A statement on Real’s official website reads: “Cristiano Ronaldo joined the training session on the pitch (as) Madrid returned to training and completed a recovery session two days before the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund in Signal Iduna Park.”

Ronaldo returned to the pitch alongside the subs from Anoeta, while the 11 starters did a recovery session.

Carlo Ancelotti had said the rest was more a pre-caution and not based on a serious injury, but given Real’s 3-0 advantage over Dortmund the Portuguese could be rested again.

Ronaldo, however, will surely be keen to play to become the lonely record scorer in the Champions League, after he equalled Lionel Messi’s record in the first leg.

Gareth Bale had again stepped out of Ronaldo’s shadow on Saturday and brilliantly scored the 2-0 for the Los Blancos with a 35 yard strike following a mistake by Sociedad goal keeper, Carlos Bravo.

The Welshman, however, left the field with an opening wound that required two stitches after the game, but is still expected to play on Tuesday.

Strangely, Real have a 100 percent record without Ronaldo in the side this season, having won all five La Liga games and the one Champions League game which their top scorer has missed.

Without Ronaldo on the pitch, Bale scores every 68 minutes, whilst alongside the Portuguese he only scores every 192 minutes.
