CR7: The Bernabeu Is Home

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has called Real Madrid “his home” after extending his contract with the Spanish giants over the weekend.

The destructive Portuguese goal machine will now remain at the Bernabeu for another five years, and has once again become the best-paid player in Spanish football.

There had been moments during the recent transfer window when CR7 was linked to his former club Manchester United, with whom he freely admits to sharing a special bond.

But while he has refused to rule out any unforeseen changes in the future, Ronaldo has suggested that Madrid may well be his final footballing port of call.

"I'm really happy here," he told Real Madrid’s website after inking his lucrative new contract. "I'll be here five more years. I just want to win trophies for this club.

"I appreciate the fans like me a lot to be here. I'm happy, I want to give my best on the pitch.

"I will be honest with you - everyone knows I was in Manchester for six years. Manchester is in the past.

"Now my club is Real Madrid. This is my home, my family is here and I'm really happy here.

"I respect all the clubs who ask about me. But they always know that my decision, that my only goal is to be here and to play at this club until, maybe, the end of my career.

"The future nobody knows."

Ronaldo has scored a simply scorching 203 goals in 203 appearances for Los Blancos since joining them from United.

Come Bale, come all, he is still the top dog at the Bernabeu, arguably Real Madrid’s best player of the modern era, and that is saying a lot.

And the Madrid faithful will breathe a sigh of relief that their club’s most important player will be there for the long haul.
