CR7 & Di Maria Answer Carlo's Call

Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday night was just what the doctor ordered for the beleaguered club.

Having lost the Madrid derby to slip points five behind rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in La Liga, a few impatient Madrididistas had begun to express their doubts about the direction Real are travelling in.

But two more goals from irrepressible net destroyer Cristiano Ronaldo, and two from Angel Di Maria set Los Blancos back on a winning track.

They have now sensationally scored 10 goals from their opening two group stage matches, and are all but assured a smooth passage into the knockout rounds.

Perhaps most importantly, the team showed signs of being able to adapt to manager Carlo Ancelotti’s varying tactics as and when required, and the Italian was deservedly satisfied.

"It was a good match, the start of the match was good, with intensity and a good balance. Our play was slower after the goal, but in the second-half we played with intensity and tried to score until the end. The attitude was good. We changed the attitude and that was good," Ancelotti said.

Madrid also changed their formation, spreading the play from their previous narrow base. And Ancelotti was pleased that the strategy paid off.

"We changed because the opposing team were very compact. Cristiano and Di Maria played more open to have more chances to cross. The first two goals came from good combination plays and we used the flanks well. Illarra, Khedira and Modric did a good job," he crooned.

With Gareth Bale ruled out for up to two weeks with an injury before the game, it was Di Maria’s chance to shine alongside his bosom buddy CR7, who once again appears to be in simply unstoppable form..

And the Argentine winger revelled in the opportunity, not only sharing a brace with the Portuguese superstar, but assisting him to score with an audacious rabona!

"I am very happy,” Di Maria said of his sparkling contribution.

“We played very well changing the system a little to three up front now. The coach is still confident in us and we did a great job. If we play like that every day, things will improve".

"I have more confidence to do the rabona with my right. We have to keep going like that, all matches are hard but we can make it easier by doing things well. I'm still working the same and trying to convince the coach I want to be in the starting eleven."
