BREAKING: CAS Reject Suarez Appeal

The Couth of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) has rejected Luis Suarez appeal and upheld his four months ban, but are allowing him to train with his new FC Barcelona teammates.

Suarez's legal team and his new club FC Barcelona argued his ban from all ‘football-related activity’ for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup was excessive.

The Uruguay striker was suspended for four months and an additional nine international games, and initially wasn't allowed to train until his ban expires in October.

However, Suarez’s defense team explained FIFA cannot and have never sanctioned such a heavy ban which also influences the player’s club career, whilst the incident happened on country duty.

Chiellini himself reportedly also appeared in court to support Suarez's appeal after FIFA had confirmed they won't shorten the ban.

Suarez was a Liverpool player at the time of his clash with Chiellini but has since left Anfield to join FC Barcelona in a £75 million deal.

The ruling allows Suarez to train with the Barcelona squad, meaning he could feature in the first El Clasico of the season, which takes place one day after his expires on 25 October.

However, Suarez will be allowed to play friendlies and could make his Barcelona debut against Club Leon in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Nou Camp on Monday.
