Reds See Off Milan

Goals from Joe Allen and Suso secured a 2-0 win for Liverpool over AC Milan in the International Champions Cup.

Brendan Rodgers rested a few senior players, while Jordon Ibe, Raheem Sterling, Martin Kelly and Sebastian Coates were handed starts, while Filippo Inzaghi started with M'Baye Niang and Stephane El Shaarawy upfront, with Mario Balotelli on the bench.

After slow start to the game, it was Liverpool who took the lead with first meaningful attack of the half in the 17th minute, as Joe Allen slotted past Abbiati after Sterling's effort had been saved.

The Reds then had a chance to double the lead in 10 minutes later from the penalty spot, after Adil Rami brought down Sterling in the area, however Abbiato guessed the right way to deny Rickie Lambert from the penalty spot.

Niang came close to leveling matters for Milan in the 39th minute, but his long range effort was palmed away by Simone Mignolet.

Both coaches rang the changes in the second half, with Balotelli one of the players being brought on and his intoduction seemed to be working, as Kolo Toure and Coates struggling to deal with the Italy international.

Niang was proving to be Milan's biggest threat, and he almost equalised in the 78th minute, only for Mignolet to tip his stinging effort around the post.

Substitute Suso sealed the victory for Liverpool in the 90th minute, with a low drive into the bottom corner, after combining well with Philipp Coutinho.

Rodgers' men will now meet Manchester United in the final of Champions Cup on Monday.
