Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has confirmed that he has suffered a torn hamstring and is currently undergoing treatment in Italy.
The Argentina international suffered the knock in their 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday, and is set to be out for between four and six weeks.
This would come as a major blow for the club, especially at a time when other influential players, such as Yaya Toure, will be away for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
City boss Roberto Mancini was also recently in a bust-up with Mario Balotelli, which has again seen the striker's future come into question.
"The studies confirmed I have a torn muscle. We have to keep on thinking positive and try to recover in the best way possible" Aguero posted on Twitter.
"For that, I've travelled to Italy where a specialist is treating me. I'll keep you up to date in how the injury evolves."
Aguero is likely to miss up to five Premier League matches for City, including their match against Arsenal next Sunday and their home clash with Liverpool on 3 February.
