Chicharito Seeks Personal Development

Javier Hernandez is Manchester United’s second-top goalscorer so far this season, with 12 goals to his name.

Only Robin van Persie has found the back of the net for United more than Chicharito this season.

And so it was somewhat of a surprise when the Mexican predator was benched for the Red Devils’ win over Liverpool last weekend.

But far from being downcast as a result of his omission, Hernandez sees his axing from the Liverpool game as a sign that he needs to improve.

While he may be one of the most lethal finishers in the business, Chicharito admits that he still has areas to work on in his game.

"I'm not saying I'm the perfect player," he told manutd.com.

"I am always looking to improve my game, whether that's my play outside the box or also inside it.

"I still think there is work for me to do. But the reason I want to improve is so that I can help the team.

"It's not just that I want to score more goals. It's a group sport and so I want to do what I can to help the team get the right results every week."

Chicharito is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up when United take on West Ham in the FA Cup this week, and he will hope to put the skills he has been working on in training into practice.

At the very least, as a man whose game is exclusively focused on finding the back of the opposition net, he knows his ilk is coveted at Old Trafford.

"In the history of Manchester United, the team plays a very direct, attacking game," Hernandez said.

"We want to get to the goal as quickly as we can. Whether it ends in a goal or a goal-kick, we want to play with speed.

"But the important thing at this club is that we can express ourselves.”
