Chicharito Considers United Future

Robbie Savage was hardly the most respected footballer during his career, and seems to be the least respected pundit. But he may have hit the nail on the head for once recently, when he told the BBC that Javier Hernandez is “wasted” at Manchester United.

The Red Devils love a ‘super sub’, and they think they’ve got one in Mexican international, ‘Chicharito’.

Like he showed in United’s recent Capital One Cup win, Hernandez has the knack for being in the right place at the right time, and can score every sort of goal, whether it be a clean and sumptuous finish, or a lucky deflection off his shin or his shoulder.

Chicharito scored 17 goals in all competitions for United last season, more than many top first-choice strikers.

But Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are blocking his path to the first-team at Old Trafford, and Hernandez has started just one league game so far this season.

It does not help that the one game he did start was a home defeat to West Brom, but even so, the former Chivas star believes he deserves his time in the limelight.

Hernandez insists that his preference is to see out at least the remaining four years of current deal with the English champions.

But he also says that if he cannot progress at the Theatre of Dreams, he will have to consider taking his talents elsewhere to blossom.

"I strive for that [to start more games]," 25-year-old Hernandez told Mexican TV station Deportes Telemundo.

"I am working towards earning a spot as a starter.

“I know that my performance on the pitch will allow me to achieve that goal someday either here [in Manchester] or elsewhere for any other club.

"I just need to be given more opportunities to showcase what I can do, because all of us want to be able to contribute our part so this team can win championships."
