A few short months ago, this statement would have been unthinkable, but Chelsea are sweating on the fitness of Fernando Torres.
The Spanish striker has steadily been rediscovering good form in front of goal, and has scored five goals in all competitions so far this season.
He appears to have won Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho over with his hard work in training, and will to prove his many detractors wrong.
As a result, he is not expected to appear in the starting line-up when Chelsea take on Schalke in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
If Torres is unable to play, either Samuel Eto’o or Demba Ba will have to lead the Blues’ attack, provided The Special One opts to field an out-and-out striker.
It does appear as if Mourinho will go for the jugular against a Schalke team Chelsea beat impressively 3-0 in Germany last month.
The Blues are close to booking their ticket into the knockout stage of the competition, and Mourinho wants to get over that hurdle as seamlessly as possible.
"We are in a stable position to qualify in the Champions League but if we lose again we are in a difficult position, so Wednesday is an important game for us," he told Chelsea’s website ahead of the game."
