AC Milan general manager, Adriano Galliani, has hinted that his club may make a bid for Chelsea striker, Fernando Torres, before the transfer window shuts.
Galliani promised to make a big signing before the transfer window closes after selling Mario Balotelli to Liverpool on Monday.
"We're entering the final hours of the market so let's see if we are able to sign a big-name striker, this is our main objective. Torres is certainly a big-name centre-forward, let's see if we can get him or somebody else. We're hard at work," Galliani told ESPN.
“(He is a) fantastic centre-forward. We're currently in the midst of plenty of negotiations".
Torres will be tempted by a move to the Italian club after moving down the pecking-order at Chelsea following the arrival of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba earlier in the summer transfer window.
However, Jose Mourinho has insisted that Torres has a future at the club, despite being left out of the club’s squad against Leicester at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Galliani admitted that his club may also make a move for Torres’ teammate, Marco Van Ginkel. The Chelsea midfielder is considered as a low-cost alternative to QPR player, Adel Taraabt, who spent six months at the club on loan last season.
"We've written to Chelsea (about Van Ginkel) and we're waiting for a response," Galliani added.
"We're quite confident. He's a very talented player and hopefully he'll come."
Fernando Torres has made 172 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since signing in 2010, and has scored 45 goals.
