Chelsea Drop Two Points

It was a frustrating night at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea who failed to break down a resilient West Ham defence after their English Premier League match on Wednesday night ended 0-0.

Highlighting the significance of the clean sheet for West Ham was the fact that prior to the match the Londoners had not kept Chelsea from scoring against them in their last 15 outings.

But it certainly wasn’t from a lack of trying on Chelsea’s part who saw numerous shots saved by West Ham goalkeeper Adrian on the night.

Chelsea were on the attack from the word go and created their first scoring chance in the eighth minute when Oscar saw his 18-yard shot, heading for the top corner, pushed onto the post by Adrian.

In the 24th minute Ramires slipped John Obi Mikel through on goal, but with just the keeper to beat he pushed his shot wide of the target.

West Ham suffered a bit of a set-back on the half hour mark when Mohamed Diame had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Matt Jarvis.

Chelsea, nonetheless, continued to press forward and thought they had found the opening goal a minute before the break, but John Terry saw his header from a Willian cross brilliantly saved by the feet of Adrian.

The second half continued in the same vein as Chelsea pushed forward and even opted for a more attacking approach when they brought on Frank Lampard and went to three defenders at the back.

That did not seem to make a difference as West Ham defended heroically.

In the 72nd minute Matthew Taylor threw his body on the line when he cleared a Lampard shot off the goalline.

Chelsea almost stole the victory in the third minute of added time when Demba Ba hit the post after latching onto a Eden Hazard cross, but it was not to be for the Blues as the game ended all-square.
