Chelsea Down The Saints

Goals from Fernando Torres, Wilian and Oscar secured a comfortable 3-0 win for Chelsea over Southampton at St Mary's.

The win sees Chelsea remain third, two points off the leaders Arsenal While Southampton remain in ninth.

Ramires was denied a goal in the 12th minute, after Fernando Torres played the Brazilian through on goal only for Kelvin Davies to come off his line to deny the midfielder.

Torres squandered an opportunity with 20 minutes gone, the Spaniard did well to lose two defenders but failed to keep his on target.

Southampton's first chance arrived in the 3st minute, after Dejan Lovren connected with Adam Lallana's free kick, but the defender could not direct his effort on target.

Kelvin Davies was called into action in the 35th minute to deny Ramires from the edge of the area, after the Brazilian danced past a few Saints defenders.

Just after halftime, Jay Rodriguez nearly opened the scoring for the Saints but the striker's effort from six yards was blocked by Cesar Azpilicueta.

Fernando Torres gave Chelsea the lead in the 59th minute, after Oscar's cross deflected onto the upright, Torres was on hand to finish the rebound.

Substitute Rickie Lambert  almost scored within minutes of coming on, Lambert managed to get on the end of Nathaniel Clyne's cross but could header straight at Peter Cech, who held on comfortably.

Willian doubled the Blues in the 70th minute with a great first touch and a powerful finish from the edge of the box, after combining with his fellow countryman Oscar.

Oscar got Chelsea's third in the 81st minute with a deflected finish from close range, after Eden Hazard played the Brazilian through on goal.
