Chelsea Down Fulham

Goals from Oscar and John Obi Mikel saw Chelsea register a 2-0 win over Fulham in a Barclays Premiership match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The first 45 was nothing really to write home about as the play was congested in the middle of the park and there were few chances on goal from either side.

The game, however, did start brightly with Branislav Ivanovic picking out Samuel Eto’o win a pin point cross, but the Cameroonian striker saw his effort well-saved by the Fulham keeper in the sixth minute.

The best chance of the half actually fell to Fulham in the 13th minute as Darren Bent broke behind the Chelsea defence and was left with just the keeper to beat, but Petr Cech made a great one-on-one save.

The next decent chance on goal only came in the dying seconds of the half as Ivanovic fired over the target from a good area.

The start of the second 45 saw Chelsea come out the blocks firing and they took the lead six minutes after the restart when Oscar latched onto a spilled ball by keeper David Stockdale to fire his side in front from a couple yards out, 1-0.

Fulham had a chance to level matters two minutes after going behind when Steve Sidwell met a left wing free-kick at the back post, but he headed over from a couple yards out.

After that Chelsea took a strangle hold of the game, but continued to waste chances in the final third.

Finally, the home side put the result beyond doubt six minutes from time when John Obi Mikel was quickest to react after John Terry flicked on a corner-kick as he volleyed home from close range, 2-0.
