It was the perfect start for the defending champions as Bayern Munich ran out 3-0 winners over CSKA Moscow in Group D UEFA Champions League match at the Allianz-Arena on Tuesday night.
It was the perfect start for Bayern in front of their home fans as they took the lead as early as the fourth minute after David Alaba curled home a superb 25-yard free-kick, 1-0.
Bayern continued to dominate after that and CSKA looked mesmerised by the occasion and quality of play from the home side.
Bayern were unlucky not to double the lead in the 38th minute when Mario Mandzukic hit the woodwork with a header after latching onto a Rafinha cross.
Three minutes later, however, and the champions did find their second goal as Mandzukic tucked home an Arjen Robben free-kick, 2-0.
The second half continued in the same vein and Robben was unlucky not to find the back of the net in the 48th minute when he saw his thunderous volley well saved by the keeper.
Robben did find his side’s third goal in the 68th minute with a clinical finish from 12-yards out after being set-up on goal by Alaba, 3-0.
Bayern took their foot off the gas after that as they walked away comfortable winners in their first Champions League match of the season.
