Petr Cech hopes that Frank Lampard can stay at Chelsea beyond the current season.
The veteran midfielder will be out of contract when the season ends, and it appears as if he will be forced to find a new club to play for.
But not a week passes without one of Lampard’s Blues team-mates suggesting that the 34-year-old should be retained.
Under Rafa Benitez, Lampard has shown the kind of goal-scoring form that made him one of the Premier League’s top midfielders for a decade.
And Chelsea ‘keeper Cech insists that Lamps still has what it takes to play for the club for more than just the last half of this season.
"There are still six months to go until the end of the season so we will see whether he stays or not. I'm not a director but if he keeps playing like that he will keep asking about the extension,” Cech said, after Lampard’s scoring display against Stoke over the weekend.
"The team has changed, his age has changed, but he's still important for the team.
"He might not start every game or play every game but when he plays he plays well with his quality and experience, so this is something that is great to see.
"I've known him for a long time and he's been a fantastic player for the club, and he continues to be so."
