Edinson Cavani put the Roma defence to the sword as he led Napoli to a 4-1 victory with a hat-trick of goals at Stadio San Paolo on Sunday.
The striker opened the scoring in the first few minutes and added a second shortly after the break before securing the result with a third.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo could only manage a consolation goal for the visitors, before Christian Maggio netted number four for the home side.
Four minutes into the clash the hosts were in front. Goran Pandev cut through the Roma defence with a pass that found Cavani who stuck it away.
In the 48th minute Napoli were two goals clear. Pandev once again set it up as he layed it up for Cavani to dink over Mauro Goicoechea.
The pair combined for a third time in the 70th minute with Pandev providing the pin-point corner kick that Cavani headed home with aplomb.
The Giallorossi reduced the lead to two goals three minutes later as substitute Osvaldo ran onto a through-ball and beat Morgan De Sanctis.
However, the visitors were down to 10 men a couple of minutes later. A wild lunge from Miralem Pjanic earned him a second yellow card.
The victory was completed in the 90th minute as Maggio finished off a counter attack after a fortunate rebound.
