Carlo Vexed By Ibra's Red

The Champions League has always been a frustrating competition for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has never even come close to winning it, despite his habitual league title glory.

The big Swede’s short fuse is often ignited on the European stage, making dismissals a likely aspect of his Champions League participation.

After his red card against Valencia last night, Ibra has now been sent off three times in the Champions League, and only Edgar Davids has more European Cup early showers to his name.

However, this time around the fiery Swede has the right to feel aggrieved, after his straight red for a studs-up, stamp-like challenge on Los Che’s Mexican international fullback, Andres Guardado.

While it was not the most graceful of tackles, it certainly was not the most malicious of Ibra’s career, which is peppered with elbows and other martial arts affectations.

And so PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted to being mystified about the ref’s decision to send off Ibra, ruling him out of the French club’s home leg later this month, and augmenting the hulking striker’s Champions League woes.

"I did not understand it," Ancelotti told a news conference.

"He was out on the wing, he made a tackle and he did not deserve to be sent off. That's football."

Meanwhile, Ancelotti was pleased with PSG’s display away from home, despite the fact they shipped a late consolation goal for their Spanish hosts.

It does seem as if Ancelotti is confident his Ligue 1 leaders can get the job done at the Parc des Princes in the return leg.

"I don't think we relaxed and we could even have scored a third on a couple of occasions,” he said.

“The team played a good match, we controlled the ball well and I'm pleased with our performance.”
