Ancelotti: Ronaldo Whistling Is Forgotten

Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has insisted the whistling of Cristiano Ronaldo is forgotten, and his side are fully focused on a difficult task against Borussia Dortmund.

The Los Blancos meet the Germans for the second consecutive year in the Champions League knockout stages and are keen to set the record straight after their semi-final defeat last season.

Ancelotti confirmed that his superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has no injury problems and ready to silence his critics.

“His knee is fine. He also had a small wound but he’s OK. He’s calm and motivated,” the Italian said.

“The whistling from Saturday is forgotten.

“The explanation is that he didn’t pass a ball to another player. It isn’t because of anything else.

“I think that this season Cristiano, like every season, couldn’t have done more. He has done his best for the group.”

Real are on the hunt for their tenth European title – the ‘decima’ – and have been in brilliant form throughout this Champions League campaign.

Ancelotti, however, has dismissed believe that the game against Dortmund will be a walk in the park given the injury concerns of last year’s finalists.

“I have experience of the Champions League and in the quarter-finals you have the best teams in Europe,” he continued.

“We have to pay attention to every team. It won’t be easy for anyone.

We’ve started the competition well. We did well in the group phase and in the last 16.

“We want to continue in this competition and that’s all, but it’s difficult to say who the favourite is.”

The visitors miss a couple of their regular starting XI due to injury, but the biggest loss is Robert Lewandowski’s suspension. The Polish striker has been involved in 50 percent of his side’s Champions League goals and almost kicked Real out on his own following his four goals in the first leg last year.

Dortmund coach, Jurgen Klopp, can only feature four players of the side that beat Real 4-3 on aggregate last year, but Ancelotti is wary of their counter-attacking threat.

“They’re missing an important player in (Robert) Lewandowski,” he added.

“They defend well and break very dangerously. We have to show our quality and our ability to find positive solutions.

“We’re going to play an attacking game but take a lot of care with their counter-attacks.

“Our objective is to play with intensity and speed. They have players out, but so do we.”

Marcelo is Real’s latest addition to their own injury list, but the Los Blancos still enter the tie as strong favourites having scored in their last 33 Champions League games.
