Carlo Ancelotti is seen as the mastermind behind Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph and has long outshone Jose Mourinho at Bernabeu.
The Italian, who only became the second manager to win the Champions League trophy trice, did what Jose Mourinho wasn’t able to do.
He guided Real’s star ensemble to the famous La Decima – the club’s tenth European Cup. His predecessor Mourinho had failed trice at Champions League semi-final stage with the Los Blancos.
While Mourinho faced a dressing room unrest, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe and Sergio Ramos openly praise Ancelotti.
“You breathed life back into us,” said Sergio Ramos as quoted by Marca.
At Sunday’s team dinner, several players reportedly made a point of going up to the Italian to say goodbye until the pre-season and to thank him for guiding them to Champions League glory.
Ronaldo has reportedly hailed Ancelotti as ‘the best coach he’s ever played under’, while Pepe, Angel di Maria and Karim Benzema all feel they have found their best form under the Italian’s helm.
Following the Copa del Rey triumph and the Champions League victory, Ancelotti has won as many major trophies in his first season as Jose Mourinho in his three years at Bernabeu.
