Birmingham City 3-1 Swansea City: Birmingham stunned Premier League side Swansea 3-1 at St Andrews in their Captial One Cup clash on Wednesday. The Swans are dealing with a difficult fixture list due to their league and European committments, and it seemed to take its toll as they went down to Birmingham. Second-half goals from Daniel Burn, Matthew Green and Tom Adeyemi took the hosts to a 3-0 lead before Wilfried Bony pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time. It was too little too late for the visitors though as they crashed out.
Newcastle United 2-0 Leeds United: The Magpies dealt with a difficult tie against visiting Leeds United. Newcastle have not had the best of starts to their campaign but they hit the front through Papiss Cisse in the 31st minute and their progress into the next round was confirmed after the break by Yoan Gouffran.
Tranmere Rovers 0-2 Stoke City: The Potters proved too much for minnows Tranmere as they secured a 2-0 win at Prenton Park on Wednesday night. Stephen Irelands fired the visitors into the lead in the 23rd minute and Peter Crouch confirmed the win in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
