Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Stuttgart
Second-placed Bayer Leverkusen closed the gap on log-leaders Bayern Munich to 10 points after their come from behind victory over Stuttgart at the Bay Arena. Stuttgart took the lead in the 12th minute when he curled the ball into the top left-hand corner from 20 yards out, after his first effort at goal was blocked. Stefan Kiessling then drew the hosts level in the 26th minute when he slotted home confidently from close range. Eren Derdiyok’s diving header in the 84th minute was enough to complete the comeback and move Leverkusen four points clear of Borussia Dortmund.
Augsburg 3-1 Werder Bremen
Augsburg came from a goal down to extend their unbeaten run to seven games with their 3-1 win over Werder Bremen at the SGL Arena. Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker was unfortunate to concede an own in the first three minutes of the game and give Bremen an early lead. The home side though hit back through Tobias Werner just eight minutes later. Halil Altintop gave Augsburg the lead with four minutes played in the second period before André Hahn’s 55th minute goal wrapped up matters for the home side.
Mainz 2-0 Freiburg
South Korea internationals Park Joo-ho and Koo Ja-cheol both were on the score sheet as Mainz picked up a 2-0 victory over Freiburg at the Coface Arena. Park opened the scoring midway through the first-half before Koo sealed all three points with his 86th minute goal.
Schalke 2-1 Wolfsburg
Kevin-Prince Boateng snatched the points for the Royal Blues with a late goal at the Veltins Arena. Schalke started off the game strongly and opened the scoring through Felipe Santana in the ninth minute, only for Maximilian Arnold to level matters on the hour mark. Boateng’s 81st minute goal though was enough to earn all three points for the home side and maintain their perfect start to 2014 with two wins out of two.
Hoffenheim 3-0 Hamburg
Hoffenheim handed Hamburg a fifth straight defeat in their 3-0 home win. Goals from Roberto Firmino, Niklas Sule and Andreas Beck earned an important win for the home side which eased their relegation fears leaving their opponents in the bottom three.
Hannover 3-1 Borussia Monchengladbach
Mame Biram Diouf scored a brace as Hannover easily dispatched Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 at the AWD Arena. Artjoms Rudnevs opened the scoring in the 57th minute while Peniel Kokou Mlapa did score a consolation for the visitors.
