News breaking in France is that Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema will return to the French set-up ahead of the upcoming UEFA European Championship.
French football writer and journalist Julien Laurens has claimed that "different sources" have confirmed Benzema will be named in Didier Deschamps' Euro 2020 squad when he announces his selection on Tuesday evening.
The 33-year-old has not played for his national team since 2015, having amassed 81 caps and scored 27 goals until then.
Benzema was kicked out of the team after a sex-tape scandal involving ex-Les Bleus attacking midfielder Mathieu Valbuena, whom the Los Blancos striker was believed to have attempted to blackmail.
The forward has maintained his innocence over the years, although he has been embroiled in a number of verbal spats with Deschamps and those at the French Football Federation (FFF) in that time.
In January this year, Deschamps insisted he would never forget Benzema's insinuation that he is racist, saying that: "Even if with time it calms down a bit, I can't forget. It's not just about Karim Benzema. There are statements by other people too that have led to this violent act, which affects my family."
On the field, despite his fallout with the FFF, Benzema has put in some incredible performances for Los Blancos in recent seasons and particularly this one, in which he has so far scored 29 goals in 45 games.
