Bradford Shock Villa In First-Leg

League Two side Bradford City continued their fairy tale campaign in the Capital One Cup as they beat Premier League side Aston Villa 3-1 in their semi-final first-leg at Coral Windows Stadium on Tuesday.

Villa threatened first in the game with Christian Benteke getting behind the defence but the excellent Matt Duke got down will to make the save.

The hosts would then stun their opponents in the 19th minute when Villa failed to clear a corner and it fell to Nahki Wells who placed it inside the far post.

James Hanson almost made it 2-0 in the 37th minute but Fabian Delph cleared off the line while Gabriel Agbonlahor saw his strike saved by the goalkeeper.

Duke would continue to inspire his side after the break when he made a fantastic save to keep out Benteke's header before denying Agbonlahor soon after.

The stopper got the bit of luck he needed in the 67th minute after parrying a strike at goal as Darren Bent nodded the rebound over the crossbar.

The stadium would erupt 10 minutes later when Bradford scored their second as Rory McArdle buried a header to extend their advantage.

Andreas Weimann continued his good form for Villa as he pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute but it was Bradford's night and with two minutes to go Carl McHugh nodded a corner past Shay Given to restore their two-goal cushion.

The Bantams will now head to Villa Park with a decent advantage as they look to secure their place at Wembley for the final.
